About TrueValuePick
Most “best of” pages are written by someone who has never owned the thing. We started from the opposite end: find the people who bought it, quote what they wrote, and let what they say set the ranking, or hold the editor’s own order to account.
Why this site exists
A spec sheet says what a product is supposed to do. The people who own it know what it actually does: which glass press cracked in someone’s sink, and which steel one an owner has used every day for eight or nine years. They say so in public, and we keep the receipt.
Some owners have used a product every day for years; others are reviewing it fresh out of the box. Both are worth hearing, and a guide here says which kind of evidence it rests on, so you can weigh it yourself.
What you will find in every guide
A ranking that says who set it
Every guide ranks its picks and says on the page whether the order follows owner consensus or was set by the editor.
Owners in their own words
Each pick carries quotes copied word for word from owners and buyers, captioned with who said them; a pick with none carries a short note on what to expect instead.
The complaints, kept
Pros sit beside cons written from what owners reported. A pick at number one still shows what its owners grumble about.
A conclusion per pick
A short closing judgement under each product says why it sits at its rank, and who it suits.
A buying guide and the usual mistakes
What to look for before you buy, and the traps owners describe falling into, each in its own panel.
How a guide gets built
- Read what owners wrote. We read what people write about a product once they own it: in public forums and owner communities, and in the buyer reviews on a product’s own listing.
- Verify every quote. Each quote is checked word for word against an archived copy of the page it came from, the thread or the listing, before it can appear. A quote we cannot trace back does not ship.
- Order the picks. In a guide built from discussions, the pick owners keep recommending unprompted comes first. In a guide built from listings, or around a product the editor placed first, the editor sets the order and the page says so.
So far: 27 guides, resting on 538 quotes from 119 archived sources.
The rules every quote passes, and every step from a question to a published guide: the methodology.
What we refuse to do
- We write our guides without prices: the retailer shows what something costs right now.
- We take no money from any brand or retailer, so no payment decides which pick sits at number one.
- We do not invent an owner, a quote or a source. A quote we cannot trace back does not ship.
How quotes are verified, how the ranking is decided, and how a guide is put together are on our methodology page.
Who pays for this
Nobody. There are no ads, no sponsored placements and no commissions on the links, and no brand or retailer can pay for a place on a list or for what a page says. A link to a retailer is a plain link, there so you can check what a pick costs today. Samples and review units are not accepted.
We earn no commission on any link. In some guides the editor picks the first product, and the page says so; the other picks in such a guide were chosen by the stated rule.
